On the morning of April 9, 2018, senior advisor of Confucius institute/hanban headquarters, professor Ackermann, a famous German Sinologist, and Zhu Dan, deputy director of the Cultural department, visited the School of Architecture and Urban Planning of Huazhong University of Science. They also visited the virtual simulation experiment center of our institute, and discussed the application of virtual reality technology in spreading Chinese culture. Professor Chen Jianguo, vice President of our university, professor Liao Xiaofei, director of International Communication Department, President Liu Junhua of Education College, vice President Gao Xiang, professor Huang Yaping, dean of School of Architecture and Urban Planning, professor Li Xiaofeng, professor Tan Gangyi, director of virtual simulation experiment center, associate professor Huang Tao, relevant technical personnel and graduate students attended the activity.

The two sides held a special discussion on the application of virtual reality technology in the restoration and protection of historical and cultural heritage. Akeman pointed out that VR can use modern technology to show the city's historical features and tell Chinese stories well, so that more foreigners can understand Chinese culture. Zhu said that this technology can be widely used in foreign exchanges and exhibitions, so as to show the rich ideological content of Chinese culture, and invite relevant research teams from our institute to participate in the project of Frankfurt book fair, known as the "world cultural trend indicator".


Professor Tan Gangyi said it was a great honor to be part of this global event. By using digital technology and artistic creative to reproduce China's urban scene in history, China' s historical legacy comes from "the previous world" to "this life", which is a new exploration in the protection of cultural heritage, and it also fulfills the cognitive needs of the masses with a rich technical means, which is of great significance in the dissemination of the promotion of Chinese culture.


Vice President Chen Jianguo extended a warm welcome to Mr. Ackermann and his delegation, pointing out that the research team of our school of construction and regulation can participate in the Frankfurt book fair, the largest and most important book trade exhibition in the world, and use the scientific research results to display Chinese characteristics and spread Chinese culture, which is of great significance for expanding the international influence of our school and Wuhan city.

During the meeting, Ackermann and his colleagues of Confucius Institute fully affirmed the research and application of the virtual simulation technology and the protection of cultural heritage in our school, as well as the conception of Wuhan as a case to display the contents and technology. They also reached a consensus with the research team of the virtual simulation experiment center of our school to jointly design and plan the exhibition link of "ART+" (the theme of cultural heritage protection) in the Frankfurt book exhibition in 2018.
